Cone Hat Drafting - Salem
Learn how to draft a custom cone-shape hat. After you know the basics, you can run with it and make any cone hat in any size and decorate it any way you want.
Do you need a basic Santa hat? Done.
Do you need a wizard hat for a toddler? Done.
Do you need a witch's hat that's 4 feet tall with a 20 inch brim? Done.
How about 10 elf caps with names embroidered on for a holiday party? Or a cone head to make an alien from Saturday Night Live (now I'm dating myself!)? The sky is the limit.
And, since you're the one drafting, your hat can work with any fabric!

You’ll leave with technical skills, a stronger design eye, and the proud knowledge that you can build something beautiful from nothing but fabric, trim, and imagination.
In class, we will be drafting and building an unlined Santa-type hat. We will also be drafting and discussing a witch-type hat and discussing how to build it. Kits are available. Kits contain the fabric for the Santa hat, and enough drafting paper for both types of hat.
Bring the following supplies to class:
- drafting paper
- pencil
- pen
- tape measure
- flexible drafting ruler
- fabric for main hat (fat quarter or bigger for an unlined hat)
- fabric for cap-type brim (1/8 of a linear yard)
- pins or clips
- thread
- paper scissors
- fabric scissors
- sewing machine
- fiberfill or fabric scraps
