Motion of the Ocean: An Intro to Free Motion Quilting - Salem

This class is based on the required text First Steps in Free Motion Quilting by Christina Cameli will cover how to plan and approach free motion projects, demonstrate and discuss tools to add ease, and explore a few classic and forgiving designs/textures including stippling, pebbles, echo quilting and meandering lines. The class is based on one of the many projects in the book and uses four individual fish themed applique blocks to practice; however plain quilt sandwiches can be used in leu of an appliqued project. If you have questions or need additional guidance on the sandwiches please see instructor prior to class.

Required Supplies:

- First Steps in Free Motion Quilting by Christina Cameli

-Four Quilt Sandwiches secured with basting, spray basting or pins. These can be

-Four 13” Square Blocks, appliqued in a marine scene as desired, with batting and backing that extend two inches beyond the block on all four sides.

-Four 13” plain squares of quilters cotton with batting and backing that extend two inches beyond the block on all four sides.

-Sewing Machine and all components needed to sew

-Free Motion pressure foot

-Thread to coordinate or contrast with project (personal preference)

-Universal or Quilting needles

-Basic sewing compliment (snips, fabric marking method of choice etc)

Optional (but strongly recommended) Supplies:

-Stitch Regulator such as BSR

-Glider mat for machine

-Quilting gloves

-Golden Threads quilting paper

-Pen and paper

-Willingness to play!
