Basically, the Basics -Salem
This class is meant to develop practice proper technique and teach the skills necessary to confidently complete a quilt top.
The class does not require or expect any prior knowledge when it comes to quilt construction and will cover the following skills:
- Fabric preperation
- Rotary cutting with quilting ruler
- Piecing
- Pressing
- Squaring
- Block and Row Assembly
Supplies:
- Sewing machine and all parts necessary to sew
- Rotary cutter
- 6"x24" Quilting ruler
- Straight pins or clips
- Small sewing scissors (snips)
- Offset Oasis pattern
- 80/12 Universal Needles
- Cotton or polyester 50 wt thread in white or coordinating color of choice
- Fabric for the desired size of finished quilt top, as specified on pattern
- If you need assistance selecting fabric or deciphering the fabric requirements, please see instructor before class
- 1/4" Piecing foot appropriate for your machine OR
- Magnetic seam guide OR
- Washi/painters tape
- Magnetic pincusion
- Spray starch
- Square quilting ruler
The class will cover quilt top construction, and is part of our 'Basically the Basics' series. Check back in March for the next piecing class in the series for a slightly more advanced quilt top. Follow up classes on various styles of quilting and binding would also be great next steps!
